We need your help now!!
We are the Second United States Cavalry Regiment reenactors located in Southern California. We have been in existence since 1995 and participate in Civil War (1861-1865), Indian Wars (1865-1890), and Spanish American War (1898) re-enactments through-out Southern California. Our group also goes out to local schools to spend a day with middle school through high school students in “immersions”, educating them about the Civil War time period. We participate in various military ceremonies honoring our veterans and fallen soldiers. We organize the only formal military ball in Southern California where reenactors from various groups come together for a pleasant evening of dancing to live period music.
Our unit is a family oriented group of volunteers made up of over 50 active members with soldiers, civilians and children. We set up camp for a weekend and usually perform two battles a day as well as demonstrate what camp life was like back in the day. We have activities for both men and women.
The reason we are setting up this fund is to purchase a new truck to carry our equipment and buy loaner equipment and uniforms for educational purposes. As you might imagine, there is a lot of “stuff” we need to bring to an event. Our current truck is an old Isuzu with many, many miles which requires major work done. The brakes are failing and the transmission is about to go out. We do not have the funds to keep repairing the vehicle so we are looking to try to purchase a new truck.
As an incentive, your donation is tax deductible since we are a California State Non-Profit Corporation. We hold tax exempt status with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) Charitable Educational Organization. As further enticement, if you are willing to donation $500 or more we would offer you the opportunity to come to one of our events and spend a day with our unit to experience period camp life and meals (hope you like hardtack, just kidding!). You must be able to get yourself to one of our scheduled events. As we say in reenacting, come see the elephant! Who knows, you may want to join up!
